Mikel Arteta is looking to finally materialize the positive momentum, but the Magpies proved to be a tough nut to crack for many opponents, and don’t expect it to be any different at the Emirates.
It looked like the new manager found the winning formula for Arsenal when the Gunners beat Manchester United and the fans were ready to go. But, then the team noted four consecutive draws, throwing them down the table and they are now in the middle of the table at 10th.
Waiting for Aubameyang
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned as the Gunners were hoping he would bring the needed spark, having scored 14 goals until his suspension against Crystal Palace. However, that wasn’t fruitful as Burnley’s low defensive block was too much for Arsenal’s firepower upfront.
We expect to see Nicolas Pepe return to the starting lineup against Newcastle, as the Frenchman is increasingly showing why he is worth €80 million.
Both the fans and the management are hoping that Arteta can develop an identity within the team, and even if the results have to suffer, then so be it. But, on the other hand, a mid-table position is absolutely not good enough and the Spaniard will have to start raking up wins if he wants to make a positive change.
Catenaccio at St. James’ Park
There were a ton of critics when Steve Bruce took over after Rafa Benitez’s departure in the summer, but the English manager looks like he knows what he’s doing.
Newcastle are far away from the relegation zone, seven points off the bottom three of the league. The attacking output isn’t quite there yet - as less than a goal scored per match on average suggests - but the defensive line is as disciplined as ever.
Just when it looked like they are hitting the crisis with four consecutive losses, Newcastle went on an eight-match unbeaten run, including a big shocking win against Chelsea in the Premier League. They set up in a 5-4-1, relying on quick breaks without risking too much at any moment of the match, even if it often means a bore draw.
Arsenal vs Newcastle United Prediction
Arsenal will surely have more possession, but that lies perfectly in hands for the Magpies who will try to hit on a counter mainly through Allain Maximine’s darting runs forward. It’s a clash of different philosophies and styles, but Arsenal have to start winning, and this is a golden opportunity, considering their better chances to win as a host.
Premier League Betting Odds
Arsenal odds are at 4/9, while Newcastle are at 675/100 odds. The draw are at 71/20.
