Week one of the English Premier League season concludes with a double header on Monday evening. Here we focus on the match at Bramall Lane where Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers battle over three points from 20:00 GMT.
- Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction for September 14
Both clubs enjoyed successful seasons last term and aim to pick up where they left off. The Blades did sneak a 1-0 win when last hosting Wolves earlier this summer with the winning goal scored by John Egan with 90 minutes on the clock. Wolves are hungry for revenge.
Blades make three signings
Sheffield United spent much of the previous campaign battling for the prize places and were expected to secure Europa League football for this season. The Blades failed to hold their consistency after returning from lockdown and a run of poor performances saw them drop to ninth in the Premier League. Manager Chris Wilder knows his boys are better than midtable and will ask them to go and prove it in the coming months.
Wilder has been busy in the summer transfer window and signed three new players in quick succession. Defenders Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe arrive from Derby County with Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu signing on a season-long loan deal that will give him an opportunity to gain regular first-team football at a high standard. Reports suggest the club haven’t finished their transfer business.
Wolves mean business
Wolves fans are living in a golden age for the club and watched on as manager Nuno Espirito Santo guided them through another remarkable season to a seventh-place finish. As well as holding their own in the Premier League, Wolves also made it to the latter stages of the Europa League and pulled off some upset wins along the way. Supporters hope to see more of the same this season.
The visiting side smashed their transfer record this summer when spending £35m on young striker Fabio Silva from Porto. The newbie may only be 18 years old and moving to a new country, but the fee paid means he will be expected to hit the ground running and help fire his employers to success in the months ago. Silva is joined by Brazilian left-back Marcal who signs from Lyon. Two bold moves from the board which show Wolves mean business this year.
Sheff Utd vs Wolves prediction
Sheffield United strengthened over the summer and will fancy themselves as good enough to get off to a winning start on their own patch. This will be another competitive Premier League season and points won at home could make all the difference to where the Blades finish.
Wolves caught the eye with their summer signings and football fans will be interested to see how Silva and Marcal get on in the Premier League. The away team have spent a large sum of money on both men and will need them to repay that sooner rather than later.
